Ok so look. We walk into the restaurant and we're greeted by Heather, one of the kindest and thorough hosts I've met. She goes over the menu and takes our orders. I got the smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, and collards. Hubby got the wing combo with potato salad. Each serves with soft rolls and butter.
I bit into that pork chop and LET. ME. TELL. YOU just like I told the hostess AND and the gentleman who prepared this meal. That pork chop took me back to a real happy place in a country Baptist church fellowship hall. Everything we ate tasted great and reminded me of home. The difference was that this chef did not add too much salt like grandma likes to do sometimes. Yes people, you can eat this food and not have to take another dose of your blood pressure meds and still be more than satisfied.
At the end, I was full, happy, and didn't lose much out of my pocket for it. Will see y'all soon. -

What can I say, Heather took care of my family like we were her family! And not the kind of family you only put up with BECAUSE they are family
But I know you care as much about the food and it was FANTASTIC!!! Braised beef ribs, catfish, fried okra, Mac and cheese, hush puppies! My kids pounded it all until they were a part of the clean plate club. We are preparing to move back to the upper Midwest so this meal was a perfect cap to our time here in NC. My 6 year old said "daddy, this food is the best ever. I'll remember this forever!" I call that a win.
If we were staying local, my family would continue to support heather and hers. But since we can't, you should!! -

Had the Fried Catfish and it ended up being one of the best catfish I've ever had. Walking in the staff was beyond welcoming and friendly. Made me feel like home :) restaurant was extremely clean. Beyond surprised with this place.

OMG!!! I am sooooooo glad we found Willie mae's!! I have been telling everyone about this place since I ate here! There is little to no room in the place so do not plan on dinning in. But trust me to go will be worth every bite. I had the smothered pork chops and they gave me two huge pork chops that tasted like my grandma made it with superb Mac and cheese and the SWEET TEA... was crack!!! Amazing !! I'm so glad I finally found a delicious soul food place!!
